New NanoCeram® filter cartridge

Novel nanofiltration material NanoCeram® is now available in cartridge format to complement the current range of membrane & syringe filters. The Superfilter cartridge demonstrates exceptional flow rate, capacity and filtration efficiency and is ideal for all aspects of water filtration.

NanoCeram(R) Pleated Superfilter NanoCeram® pleated cartridge filters consist of nano alumina fibers, dispersed over microglass and other fibers to produce a non-woven filter media with an average pore size of 2 microns. The highly electropositive alumina attracts and retains sub-micron particles. NanoCeram® filters are highly effective for retaining bacteria, virus, cysts, DNA and endotoxins. The filters will also remove turbidity whose origin may be natural organic matter, colloidal inorganic or ultra fine metal particles.

NanoCeram® filters support flowrates tens of times greater than ultraporous membranes yet trap particles only a small fraction of the filter’s pore size. The pleated filter has a dirt holding capacity for A2 test dust that is >20 times greater than glass fiber, meltblown or membrane filters. This translates into very long filter lives before changeout. The pleated cartridges are suggested for efficient filtration of particles >0.1 micron, with excellent (>99%) retentivity of particles only 0.03 micron. The Superfilter will retain >6 LRV (log retention value) of 0.5 micron bacteria. Its flow characteristics are typical of a 2 micron filter but it is functionally equivalent to a 0.03 micron ultraporous membrane. The 2.5” X 10” is a conventional size that can be contained in off the shelf housings, available in a wide variety of colors and connections. This size cartridge is capable of 4 gallons/min and is effective over a pH range of 5-9. The pleated “Superfilter” cartridges have application in chemical and pharmaceutical processing, food and beverage manufacture, swimming pools and spas, biological sampling and as prefilters for reverse osmosis membrane systems.

The P2.5-5 is also available. This filter was tested with 250 NTU of fine test dust and was able to remove 99.999% of the dust over 130 gallons. It would be cost effective as a sampler for virus in rivers, streams and municipal effluents.
